Damascene Brocade
Damascene
brocade is one of the most famous and luxurious fabrics in the world, made from
natural silk threads combined with gold and silver threads.
Damascus has
been famous for producing brocade since ancient times, with skilled artisans
dedicated to this craft, making the fabric globally associated with the city.
Brocade
production is a precise and demanding process, taking months to complete just
one meter, which limits the number of artisans but also adds to its prestige.

History of

Damascus has

centuries. The fabric was requested by kings, rulers, and celebrities,
including the wedding dress of British Queen Elizabeth made from Damascene
brocade.
This craft
sometimes declined due to wars, crises, and lack of materials or skilled
artisans, but it was revived around 1935.
Types of
Brocade:
Brocade
contains gold or silver threads for decorations and patterns.
Designs vary:
human figures, dancers, plants, and animals such as elephants, deer, and birds.
Some brocade

brocade is considered part of Syria’s precious heritage, reflecting the skill
and creativity of artisans throughout the ages.
